With a Bachelor's degree in Interior Design, and years of learning the ins-and-outs of the trade (from customer-interface, to design+manufacturing +installation), DuVäl opened DuVäl Design LLC, in the summer of 2011. Some of his projects include the Homeland Security building on 15th Street in DC, the Watergate South and West, the Embassy of Saudi Arabia, a former Ambassador to Mexico, professional athletes and so much more. He has been honored to be named, "The One to Watch" by DC Modern Luxury and "Hot Talent" by Home&Design magazines, and included in the Iconic Home by Architectural Digest.

Tumi Chair

From the artist, Whenever we design a new piece, we start with how we want it to read emotionally - we think of spaces as emotional tapestries equal to the sum of the emotional tone of each individual piece. In this case, we wanted to design a piece that brought warmth & softness to a space. We originally started with 6 or 7 versions of the chair ranging from simple to very complex forms. We actually wanted to produce some of the more complex forms, but the wide chunky legs combined with bold colors were graphic enough to stand alone. We also realized that with a simpler form, the piece became much more versatile, especially when combined with color choice; a bold, bright color could bring some timely pop to a room, while a more muted black, sand, or cream would stand the test of time and fit a variety of rooms. We ultimately went with a simpler form as a result.

The Pascal 1-Drawer Side Table, an open silhouette with equal parts structured and airy, with a cubic profile that speaks to modern tastes. In addition to its top, its framed lower shelf works as a display area for small decorative statues, petite pottery, or a stack of books you want to show off. Shift Circular Chandelier

The artisan crafted shift circular chandelier created with the sustainable exotic wood, Laurel, and hand forged iron is shown in snow mountain stain and burnished brass iron. Like a piece of art this fixture is available in Sherwin Williams paint or stain colors for wood finishes and custom colors for metal finishes. The gold tipped round LED bulbs are also available in silver or frosted. Available in 7 sizes and custom sizing as well. This fixture pairs with our shift sconces which are made of slivers of laurel wood that are glued together and carved into the dish portions of the fixture and then stained. 13 bulbs, dimensions 37 1/2 diameter by 52 high. Completely customizable.

Inlaid bone and mother of pearl is painstakingly applied by skilled artisans, who cut and polish each piece by hand. Introduced for Spring/Summer 2022, the Corso range is defined by the juxtaposition of curvature and structure. The generous arms create a plush cocooned seat while the exterior silhouette provides clean lines for contemporary and modern interiors. Upholstered in Lyssa, this luminous velveteen basketweave is Eichholtz interpretation of the next iteration of boucle. While still giving the depth of texture, it offers an alternative to the trend.

I chose these fabrics because of the scale and color palettes. While these felt familiar and conventional, the scale and portion felt unconventional and free. Great choice!

Brandywine 4 Door Credenza

Visitors are invited to have a seat and enjoy the commanding view from an enclosed porch just off of the 7th floor Billiard Room at Winterthur Museum. The seating area occupies 3 a section of what was formerly H. F. du Ponts private porch, accessed by passing through his study known as the Lancaster Room. Today, the view includes the East Terrace, the Louise du Pont Crowninshield Library and Research Building, the Garden, and sweeping farmland that was once the home of du Ponts dairy herd. Hickory Chair artisans were inspired by the architectural sunburst detail on the porch in the design of the cabinet. The Brandywine Credenza is available as a 2-door or generously scaled 4-door version.
