Erika Heet on authenticity, celebrity and mischief at Fall Market

The beautiful grind of any furniture market can sometimes be overshadowed by a sense of sameness. I’m thrilled to report that this never set in at High Point Market, mostly due to brands doubling down on their own visions, moods and expertise, rather than borrowing from others. I loved seeing a focus on Brutalism, chic nods to the past and legit celebrity collaborations, all with an eye toward a little bit of mischief.

BERNHARDT WAILEA OUTDOOR SWIVEL CHAIR

You know when you’re in your eighth hour at Market and you sit down in a chair and never, ever want to get out? This is that chair: the Wailea swivel chair from Bernhardt’s new Exteriors line, launched at Fall Market. Its overstuffed weave looks artistic and modern and stands up to the elements like a boss.

A.R.T. FURNITURE BAUER DOOR CABINET BY BOBBY BERK

Queer Eye star Bobby Berk keeps his design roots strong with his first furniture collection for A.R.T. FURNITURE, housed in its gorgeous new High Point showroom. With his Bauer door cabinet, Berk uses caning in the tradition of the greats – Le Corbusier, Marcel Breuer, and Mies Van Der Rohe – employed in a truly fresh and modern way.

GLOBAL VIEWS EGNE TABLE LAMP BY FORM DESIGN

Joshua Rose and Rafael Kalichstein aren’t TV stars, but they could be. The design team, known to friends as Josh and Rafi and to the rest of the world as FORM Design, have carved out a corner for themselves at Global Views with a new collection. Inspired by the works of ceramicist Egne Dagnaes, the cast aluminum Egne table lamp is a little brutal and a little delicate, its pierced diffuser casting a playful pattern when lit.

MCGUIRE CALISTOGA TABLE BY BARBARA BARRY

Barbara Barry is the original California design rebel. Her Calistoga table for McGuire, with its walnut base, warm bronze platform and – what else? – organic, free-flowing travertine top, brings a bit of Golden State chill to the home furnishings capital of the world.

MITCHELL GOLD + BOB WILLIAMS ADDIE PULL-UP TABLE

The Addie Pull-Up table by Mitchell Gold + Bob Williams continues the chic track of the pair’s new releases as they celebrate 30 years in design. Addie, shown in a bronze finish with a black-glass top, is defined by hand-applied brushing, hearkening to a cocktail era with a bossa nova beat.
