Artist Shima Shanti is a beeswax & fire painter in the ancient art form called Encaustic. Her abstract-impressionistic paintings convey incredible depth and subtlety. Wholly modern yet timeless, each artwork is beautiful in its simplicity.
Boldly layering brush strokes of molten wax and natural earth pigment onto a birch panel she creates a rough-yet-refined texture. Then firing with the flame of a torch, she creates deep luminous dimension. The fifty-plus layers of beeswax in each painting draw the viewer beneath the surface. Her minimal palette of matte hues pared with unexpected texture and finished to a super-gloss evoke the emotive power of modern design and the atmosphere of contemporary homes. Shima's latest collection, Sanctum Strata, incorporates abstract design with metallic elements of gold, silver, and copper.
While this is Shima's first visit to High Point, it is not her first foray into the design market. Having gained international recognition, her collections are sought by designers, consultants and art collectors worldwide.
