Market Editor Lauren Crane Alarcon finds inspiring new looks at Market

My visits to High Point Market are always enlightening and exciting. While touring last fall, I encountered inspirational pieces defined by strong lines and vigorous textures, and some that were marked by bright, bold colors.

One of the first items that impressed me was something called the Tower Chest, which comes from the Darryl Carter collection for Milling Road at Baker. I could see right away how its white lacquer finish could work as a fresh addition to any living or dining room, regardless of the prevailing decorative style. That's great design, when something has the ability to work into any setting.

I couldn’t help but vamp for a moment in front of Thomas Pheasant's Diva vanity mirror, from his namesake collection for Baker. Its shape, form and very presence in a room is a reflection (couldn't help but strike that pun) of Pheasant, who is such a talented designer. Who wouldn't want to start his or her day by gazing into this mirror?

As someone who works every day at a desk, I recognized the potential effects right away of the Barrett Boom Arm desk light from Ralph Lauren Home. The polished nickel lighting source is defined by a sleek profile, as well as its practicality.

I love my home and I love having people experience my home. One of the elements I want to have inside is the Rafa sofa from Bungalow Classic. It's completely enveloping. And when I sat on it at Market, I kept envisioning myself chatting with friends, or just curling up in it with a good book or to watch a movie. The textured fabric makes it even better.

I have found the way to add elegance and comfort all at once into a living room — with the Pierre chair by Lillian August for Hickory White. It looks and feels positively regal and luxurious, especially with its purple velvet fabric.

Whenever I fantasize about hosting the perfect dinner party, I know the best ingredient of all would be the Tessa dining chair from Gabby. I love its woven triangular pattern, as well as the sheer comfort it offers when sitting in it. I can already see my guests sitting in these chairs.

I keep thinking about Thomas O'Brien's words to describe his Mainland Wicker dining side chair for Century Outdoor. He said, “I love its perfect scale and especially its beautiful curves… It feels like a best friend to come home to." I couldn’t agree more and would love to have this chair in either an indoor or outdoor setting at my home.

It’s definitely a special feeling to get a sneak peek of what’s to come at Market. As I prepare for the spring show, I’m looking forward to connecting with MILIEU readers, fans, and our many advertisers.
